Donner Dt-1 Chromatic Guitar Tuner Pedal

Updated on March 29, 2023 By Josh Thomas

This is a review of the Donner Dt-1 Chromatic Guitar Tuner Pedal with Pitch Indicator.

The world of tuners is far and wide, that’s why reading every single Amazon review is almost impossible. I looked into the Donner closely to bring you the facts so you wouldn’t have to do that, but still have an informed opinion about your purchase.

That said, I found the Dt-1 tuner to do an excellent job at tuning the guitar or bass.

So keep reading to learn about the Donner Dt-1 specs, its strengths and weaknesses, and whether this is the right tuner for you.

Product Overview

The Dt-1 is a pedal you use to tune your guitar or bass. It shows you whether you’re in tune or not via an LED screen and light indicators in silent mode. It also has a bypass option to connect your signal through to the amp after you’re done tuning.

It does a fine job at both of those things, because it’s silent, doesn’t take long to tune, and you receive instant feedback. It also doesn’t click or pop once you turn off the tuner to bypass it to the amp.

Features

Mini Pedal

The Donner Dt-1 is a mini pedal when it comes to size, but it’s sturdily built thanks to its all-metal case. This is one of the things that set it apart from other pedals in this price range.

Wide Tuning Range

The pedal has a wide tuning range that extends from A0 (27.5 Hz) to C8 (4186 Hz), which is great if you’re using a guitar, bass, or even an electric violin or cello. They also introduced the precise strobe mode with +/- 1% accuracy, that way you can be sure you’re not far off.

LED Lights and LED Screen

The tuner is equipped with an LED screen as well as 3 LED lights that let you know where you stand. The yellow indicates a flat tone, the red indicates a sharp tone, and the green lets you know you got it.

Some users complained they’re too bright in super dark conditions, though, so you can tape them up to reduce the glare.

The LED screen displays the results of your tuning very clearly, so you can read it from a distance.

True Bypass

The Dt-1 also has a true bypass mode. Once you’re done tuning in silence, even onstage, you can step on the nail and the sound of your guitar will revert back to the amp. It doesn’t add any distortion or coloration to the sound, so you can use any other pedals without worrying about this.

Alternatives

Boss TU-3 Chromatic Tuner Pedal with Bypass

The Boss pedal is a high-quality pedal that does the same job as the Donner, but a little differently. Instead of a LED display, it has a 21-segment meter that tells you where you stand in a more analog way. It’s also triple the price of the Donner pedal, but some say it’s worth it!

Behringer CHROMATIC TUNER TU300

This Behringer tuner takes a page out of the Boss book, offering a similar, meter-style tuner. However, it’s in the same price range as the Donner pedal, so it’s not much of an investment.

Stax Guitar Tuner Pedal

The Stax tuner pedal is a budget option that can do the same job as the Donner, but for a fraction of the price. You just might need to lower your expectations about build quality.

To Wrap Up

The Donner Dt-1 guitar tuner pedal is a very reasonable option if you’re looking for a sturdy, accurate tuner for your guitar or bass without breaking the bank.
